Description
Inspired by faemike55's little excursion HERE, I decided to step out of my usual realm and post a bit of insulator-and-Photoshop tomfoolrey - or maybe Rodfoolrey, or possibly even Mikefoolrey. Whatever. But I digress....
Here's a photo I took some time ago of one of my funny glass things. I just started playing in Photoshop with filters, layers, sliders, and heck, I don't even remember all the digital torture I put this through. But I came up with this psychedelic insulator, right out of the '60s. I guess this is what happens when you dip your insulators in LSD.
In it's 'real' life, this is a very common glass insulator, a Hemingray model 42. There are many places around the midwest USA where these can still be found on poles, and in some cases still actually in use on active railway communications lines.
I almost forgot to mention - I thougt it was time to change my profile photo. I'd like to thank Tara (auntietk) for the best portrait of me I've seen in years!
Hope you enjoy! I always appreciate all your comments, clicks and faves!
Now, I'm getting back to work on my TNA series!

Awesome colors, Rod!! I used to have a collection of these things, but none were quite this psychedelic! Cool work!
Man Rod, I swear when I saw this I started hearing Purple Haze. LOL Very cool image, I cant believe those things are still being used in 2010.
used to collect that style and others in my younger days rod, cool manipulation of color.. steve
very cool pic!
That's the best thing about Photoshop, your imagination is your limit. It looks like a Rodiwarholator to me.
Well Rod! It's nice to know that I inspired you to fool around with insulators, at least this one is not connected or supporting an live wires. Great manipulation! I wonder who else has one or two of these and will post their version of them
Positively electric Rod...like your flashes of lightning arching behind this far out insulator. BTW, which insulator did you choose? Did it come from the shelves on the north side of the room...or the east or the south or the west? Love seeing you giving recognition to your old analog passion within your new digital passion:) Like this very much...ain't filters and sliders great?
This is too cool Rod! I was chuckling at the title in my e-mail wondering what I was in for when I opened this up!
I love the way this turned out! The colors and the vibe are great. I'm quite sure it started out green ... Nice work! Thanks for the plug, my friend ... I'm glad you like that portrait enough to use it! :)
Cool stuff dear friend!!! Great looking avatar, hug's Ute
Love this psychedelic insulator Rod, it sure looks in the pink of things today, I never really thought of collecting insulators as a hobby, until I saw that first posting of your ones.. and this one is way cool... Nice new avatar too Rod...

DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDE! This is LIKE WOOOOOOOOOOW MAN!! It's like psychedelic man! This would make a bitchin' black-light poster dude! LOL!!!! But seriously, it is pretty neat Rod. Funny you should mention your new avatar image because I was just thinking that ever since the first time I saw this picture of you I keep thinking you resemble someone famous... and actor or someone. Not sure who. I did like your human body avatar too though. Funny. I've been planning to change mine for about two months now but don't know wha I want to use yet.
