Description
At the National WWI Museum, the Liberty Memorial, in Kansas City.
This is the entrance to the museum exhibits.
When you arrive at the Memorial, you walk down a long driveway, past a fountain that falls next to a stairway. Reaching the bottom of the stairs you arrive in a bleak, stark, concrete bowl of sorts. Ahead of you are the heaviest bronze doors ever encountered. It's an effort to get them open.
Once through those doors you are confronted with a plexiglass bridge that leads you across a sort of no-man's land with poppies below, windows above, and the memorial looming over you.
The museum is on the other side of that bridge.
I don't know how long I stood there taking pictures of the floor, the ceiling, the bridge ... but it was long enough for Bill to take pictures of me taking pictures!

So neat. Let's see, you've got the skylight and tower reflecting off the floor with a just a hint of 9,000 poppies below. In pool, this would be a complex combination shot for sure! I agree, the mood was foreboding as we approached the gigantic, dark bronze doors. The museum lighting changed once inside because of the skylight you've captured so well here...but the mood remained somber in a reverent sort of way. Now, Tara you are the third Rendo photographer to take a bucket load of images here:) Rob (debbielove) and I first unlimbered our cameras here in June 2009. Rod (RodS) who lives about 30 minutes from this memorial is planning to be number four unless Roger (Buffalo1) from Saint Louis gets here first:) Great job :*

AW That is an awesome capture Tara. I love all the poppies and the sky and she shapes. A really superb shot.

Well, I knew where this was taken the moment I saw the photo. I love your interpretation, Tara, the way the poppies show only in the dark areas of the reflection. If I remember correctly, each one of those 9000 poppies represents 1000 deaths from that war. It sure gives you a perspective on the real cost of freedom. Someone mentioned the 'flame' on top of the memorial tower. Actually, I don't believe there ever was a flame as such, at least not in my memory. I know they used to have a light at the top, and there was also a steam vent that came out over the light. They would use an orange or red light, and when the steam exited, it did so right over the light, making it look like a flame - which was intentional, of course. I have a buch of photos I took a couple years ago when my dad and I went there - I'll have to dig a few of them out...
This is incredible! Truly superb work! Ah, but your stuff always is. And yeah, I love it. Everything about this is so subtle and elegant and there's a distinct spiritual vibe running through it, something Zen. Wonderful. Like Dana said, there's so much to understand, so much to take in, but it's such a treat. Yeah, this is one super shot!
