Description
Gutzon Borglum...most famous for his monumental sculpture of Mount Rushmore.
I found this sculpture of the artist in deep shadow back near the visitors' center. A little experimenting with levels and several brightening filters brought his features out for us all to see.
His short biography is worth a reading if you have a 3-4 minutes and the interest. Click here

Great portrait of a great artist!!!
Lovely shot Bill, obviously the carving runs in the family lol..
Just the very idea of such of HUGE work is breathtaking--what a mind he must have had!!
Fascinating to read about and see this person! thankyou!
Bill you know that I can make some stupid comments so I was tempted to say 'He went bust then'. This is a very good capture especially with the work you had to do on it.
Wonderful capture.
AN amazing man and you captured him so excellently. Well done, Bill.
Very fitting backdrop - well done on the lighting challenge! Clive
Great shot Bill. History's original vandal!

je n'avais jamais vu son visage:bonne photo!!
Well found and excellent work bringing out the lines of the sculpture from the shadows, my friend.. A famous man who is not known..... Well there you go.. Go one, mate! Rob
Very cool to see his son sculptured it. :)
Good to know... cool shot, Bill!
Great bust of him and you capture and work have shown it in a grand way!
NEAT SHOT and thanks for the Mount Rushmore history ;-) Do you have a news about the Mountain (sculpture Horse head and Indian) ?
Thanks for the biography I have been to Stone Mountain and seen the sculpture there it is quite an impressive site. Thanks for sharing these historic images.
yes that guy was a curse for environmentalists, but a blessing for the tourist industry.... as for me i'm in the middle.... ;-D
nice shot!
ahhh that was him! thank you for explication and good picture!
Great read, thankyou. I wondered how they had been carved, a great fella!!!!!
Cool capture of the sculpturing gentleman, Bill, who wore out a lot of hammers and chisels during his Mt Rushmore project. A flash, a long exposure using a tripod, or an increase in ISO might have done wonders with this find.
Nice one, Bill! You've done a masterful job bringing out the details in the shadow on this one! I'll have to check that link out when I get five minutes (which at the current level of activity should happen sometime in early October...) :-D
Fantastic capture & postwork Bill - a great share. Dana
Most well known.... Aloha
wonderful work
Bill, I must admit - this is one of the best images of a sculpture that I have ever seen! You did an excellent job with the light, levels, etc. Very well done indeed and well done to Mr Borglum for his amazing work!
Wonderful bit of history and great work on showing the bust
