Description
My journey from Kansas to Washington State continues...
After leaving the state of South Dakota and driving through the north east corner of Wyoming, I drove into south eastern Montana and found myself passing through Crow Agency, Montana and paralleling the Little Big Horn River.
My next stop was the Little Big Horn Battlefield National Monument...a national memorial honoring all Americans.
Pictured above are the leaders of the two warring parties at the Battle of the Little Big Horn, June 25th and 26th, 1876. Lt. Colonel George Custer (had been a Brigadier General earlier in the Civil War) and Sitting Bull, Chief of the the allied Lakota Sioux and Northern Cheyenne.

You made the most of your journey! Did Mandy get to visit any specifically canine sites of interest, I wonder.
Excellent piece!!!!
In the 1960s I used to see bumper stickers in that area "Custer died for your sins." The company I worked for found a little oil east of Lodge Grass, about 20 miles or so south of the battlefield.
Very nice photo....
Great captures Bill this looks very interesting.. well done!!

Great shots and story, Bill... very educative (of course, for those who are reading it!)
Great historic images Bill.
Two very strong views there.. I have one.. I'm keeping quiet.. But, a extremely famous piece of American history none the less.. Thanks for these pictures Bill.. A great trek Bill.. way to go!!! Rob
Wonderful capture. Hindsight is 20/20! I remember Bill Cosby's take on this battle
Great piece of history and wonderful shots Bill! I agree with Andrea - you did embrace the journey!

Great capture!
Quite a journey, Bill! Looks like you made the most of it. Great photos of a fascinating piece of history.
superlative image! i love Crow Agency and the battlefield, i hope you stopped for a while!
Great trip, full of interesting but sad history. Wonderful shot.
Cool capture of the two warring factions, Bill. The antagonists look like cardboard cutouts. And, I didn't know George Custer was a Brigadier General in the Civil War. Several movies have been made about Custer, Sitting Bull and the massacre at Little Big Horn. Finally, Kansas in contrast to Washington State could be considered a clash of cultures also.
Why did I think that Custer was a blond? Were there any Gatling guns on display? Jealous that I’ve not made this trip myself. Informative collage. Dana
That museum must be a fascinating place. I love the reflections of course, especially in the glass over the Custer side. Great presentation!
Very cool though Bill. Excellent.
Very well captured and presented!
IN 1876 HERE MY CITY GOT THE 200TH ANNIVERSARY AND 1976 WE GOT OLYMPIC (MONTREAL) :)
yes they fought and both tell a tell that is differ from each other. I believe the indians tell of the battle. cool shot
BEAUTIFUL E INTERESSANTE CAPTURE....WELL DONE..!!!
As a young boy I saw Errol Flynn in Custers Last Stand and I suppose most people accept that as pretty much accurate. In later life I read accounts, some by Native Americans who where there. Then I saw a programme about an archeological dig at Little Big Horn ( permitted by the Authorities following a fire.)From all of this the only 2 facts in the movie where 1.How the 7th Cavalry got "Garry Owen" for a marching song and 2. The 7th Cavalry got whooped by better soldiers. This is a great capture Bill, very much my idea of interesting, and a place I would love to visit.
