Description
During my long drive from Kansas to Washington I got fairly proficient at one-handed, point and shoot photography using my DSLR camera and wide angle (12-60mm) zoom lens. I preset all my manual camera settings and shot these images using Aperture Priority.
This photo was taken last Saturday evening driving 75 mph west on Interstate 90 (I-90) in South Dakota.
The car radio was full of severe weather warnings about thunderstorms producing large size hail and possibly spawning natures most violent storms...tornadoes. This sky looked both friendly and ominous at the same time to me.
I was quite relieved about four hours later to arrive safely at my hotel in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Looks like you were the only person in the world on this road. Great shot--glad you made it without hitting any of those storms!!
what a FANTASTIC picture!!!!!!!!
WOW You must have felt lonely at that moment and I am glad you made it. Such a beautiful shot.
When going into your gallery I always know that I am going to see something brilliant. This is no exception.
Great shot and happy ending to a safe destination.
Marvellous! I'm not sure I could hold a DSLR in one hand, they look very heavy!

Fantastic capture, Bill! lovely colours. Glad you were able to get to your destination safely, although a shot of the hail would have been interesting (a shot taken while not driving)

Great sky!
Very cool shot.
A really spectacular sunset. Thanks for sharing.
What a spectacular shot Bill. They say half the fun is getting there.
Don'tyou just hate those busy Interstates. One thing I do envy you for is roadtrips like this. Thanks for sharing.
Never seen a vivid egg yoke yellow sun like this - would be a great breakfast sunrise - Cool shot
FANTASTIC CAPTURE...NICE WORK..!!!
AWESOME IMAGE! SUPERB SUNSET!
It's amazing how the sunset itself looks like a golden, buttery dome with those nicely broken clouds drifting just in front of it. The colors are astounding, and the clarity is breathtaking. The sky is so much bigger there--as only it would be outside of any large city! Chicago skies seem so small, and I'm always amazed at the sight of a horizon without buildings in front of it! Marvelous! This is one of the best sunsets I've seen in quite a long time. Great work!
Mighty nice one, Bill! I love the way the streaks of sunlight are radiating from the clouds. Masterful 'enroute' shooting, I must say!
Some quality windshield time well spent...amazing how much empty space there is in the western states...
Oh how wonderful! Yeah - this is something I would do to!! I cannot wait to catch up!
I am crazy about skies as you well know and this one is awesome.I have taken many shots while driving but I watch out for the police because it is against the law in every state I believe
Drive faster or you'll never get there! ;D Very beautiful sunset and capture!
