Description
This is one of 7 Red-Eared Pond Turtles that were hatched last year about this time. I have seen all 7 this year and I have seen one new baby hatched this year that is still green colored.
This little guy decided to climb up a standing dead tree trunk that is in the middle of my pond. Right now, there is about 2 foot of an 9 foot tall log showing above the water. When the pond is full, the top of this log is about 1 foot beneath the surface.
Anyway, this turtle (which I can easily hold in a cupped hand), decided to climb to the top of the log and get some sun. As can be seen in the image, this is a pretty steep climb. It took the turtle about 20 minutes and several attempts to get to the top, then another 10 minutes or so to get over the edge. I was amazed that he got to the top at all and especially that he got over the edge. As you can see, it required some delicate balancing, lol. I was about 30 foot away and so the pics are just so-so.

oh how adorable he is. I have a soft spot in my heart for these turtles. I think you did a great job since they are often shy and disappear quickly...or they fall asleep in the sun and never notice people approaching...LOL
