Description
Namibia 2010
I have captured this rather handsome and colorful fellow in Botswana en route to Namibia when we made a stop to stretch legs! The camera was handheld and the wind was blowing, so the challenge was huge! This was the best I could do under the circumstances.
It is obviously some kind of grasshopper but I really liked all the different colors of his couture!! I'm not sure what that clump is on his back. He might have been hurt or something..
Thank you for visiting my gallery and for your awesome support in comment and favs on my 'Kitty Cat' upload of yesterday!
Stay well!
Hugs
Carin xx

Wow Carin I have never seen such a creature before, almost alien looking. Fabulous macro my friend, hugs Jane xx
Wow! What a cool looking grasshopper. Excellent capture.
Wonderful shot!
Fascinating looking, Excellent capture!
Great capture, really impressive!!
Wonderful find, he's very colourful indeed! That almost looks like some kind of fungus (there looks to be another smaller bit on his back end). Great shot!
A beautiful photo! Thanks for the large zoom, it provides a really close look. I don't know the species, but this grasshopper has just emerged from the pupal stage. That is just small peices of dried mud on it's body from digging it's way out of the ground.
All in the eye of the beholder, I guess!! This is a pretty interesting and colorful creature--nice shot!!
This is just a plain green grasshopper on his way to a fancy costume party. Exceptional capture and detail. You did an excellent job!
What an array of pattern and colour!
Such a handsome boy! I was relieved to hear Charles explanation of the 'growth'. A superb close-up, Carin!
Charles - thank you for taking the time to study the 'growth' and post an explanation! It has definitely calmed my heart as well as Andrea's!! :))
belle sauterelle!!!

Very handsome fella. Love his colour!!!!
Nice capture of this beautiful Grasshopper. Inconspicuous he is not, lol. Undoubtedly he is not worried about being seen. He must taste bad to predators. Well found. Lee
Yes ! Realy sexy eyes !!! :) Beautiful capture of this lovely little guy !
Hmm - I remember travelling through the Karoo in the early '80s with swarms of these covering the N1 - not a pleasent experience or sight. This guy looks good on his own though! Very colourful! Clive
Fantastic details and very beautiful colors. Excellent shot!!

Fascinating looking! Excellent capture!
terrific capture, really alien-looking!
Splendid composition and colors my friend
Fantastic capture, Carin! very handsome fellow
Wow, dressed to the nines! Terrific focus in this capture under adverse conditions, Carin! Whatever the insect, it must be the harlequin variety of the species with that getup. I also like its mask.
