...Dolphins! It's true. When you see a dolphin like this one at your local beach, you can bet there are no sharks around. Sharks are generally solitary apex predators. I've seen packs of Hammerheads overseas, but the main shark around here is the Great White which thankfully is a loner!!!!!! Dolphins hunt in groups, and being fast and boisterous, ruin the shark's efforts at catching fish. Still, my heart always skips a beat the first moment I see a fin!

Great picture. Sharks may be around, they just wont come near. Troub le is if you see a fin, you better know if it belongs to a shark or dolphin. I understand sharks tend to leap? Is that right?
Yeah, that fin scares the heck outta me!! I've seen a few, fortunately, they were always dolphins. Guess I wouldn't be telling you this if they weren't!!
Great shot! I've never seen a fin while I was swimming but I did see a large shadow pass by once, and that was quite scary to me!

Hmmmm, cool. I hadn't heard that but it makes perfect sense. I hear Great White and I still flip right back to picturing "Jaws" coming up right behind the boat out of nowhere in the 1976 classic.

Lovely shot! I've spent quite a bit of time underwater over the years, and never minded being around sharks, the exception would be the great white.
Guess the key is to be able to identify the fin...think I will stay out of the water..:)
