Description
While wandering around the museum complex in Chicago in September, our group came across this reproduction Olmec head.
We were making a bee-line for a food stand, everyone was starving by that time ... but I just had to stop and do a little portrait work! The greatest thing about hanging out with other photographers and artists is that they just stand patiently and wait, no matter what else is going on.
Photography comes first! :D

Always photography first, and anything to get that shot! I remember this. I am thinking perhaps the museum is on ancient sacred grounds and that the rest of this figure is buried deep withing the earth along with the ancient temple he looms over. Ya I have always been accused of having an over active imagination, but sometimes that's so cool. Great shot!
And his eyes are always very wide open....!!!

I remember this very well. I looked and looked at it, just couldn't decide how to shoot it. You did--and very well, of course. Your title is so good, of course it caught my eye, but I knew it would be something quite literal. I was right---yet again!!! :))))))

Excellent perspective on this monumental sculpture. This particular face has been used as an arguement by some anthropologists for the pre-columbian migration of Africans to the New World.

This is an excelent close approach to a great stone head.
Olmec Head #8: I didn't realize he had teeth showing! WOW...! The things you learn! What a shot! I've always liked this guy...almost as much as Harwa, the mummy in the Field Museum itself...he's a long-term resident there, an ancient, gnarled shop keeper mummy with his head unwrapped. Anyway...I'm glad to see this disembodied head, half-snarling and perfectly captured. What details and the light is perfect! What a great day that was too...I love the company I had.
