Description

This is a beautiful raptor, a medium sized hawk and not large when seen closely. This one is missing most of its tail feathers from some incident perhaps when hunting for food. This hawk is expected to recover for release but time will tell. These are excitable birds and react to stress. This hawk has helped me..I have been in a deep hole lacking creativity and a decent photo like this is about all I can offer. Well, I am pleased to offer this photo to be viewed but wish so much to be back to the creative freedom I have felt before. Stress in me is why and I know where most of it originates..like a curtain to creative thinking and freedom found in joy, stress is a real downer for me now. I want this bird to make it. Regrow the tail feathers and fly again. When it does, by then my creative spirit may have been found again and perhaps show in my photographs. For now, I am grateful for what nature has provided to bring its flavor of joy and beauty.

Tom, I can't get over how you presented those breast feathers in this! They are amazing. The profile really accents the tools of his trade. He looks young and eager so perhaps he will heal quickly and go back to his wild home soon... As you will find your core again and spin off into new adventures and creativity.

Wonderful shot! I took a photo a few months ago of what I thought was a red shouldered hawk, but it looks so much like this one that I may have misidentified it! Thanks for the info too!

I really love very much the outcome of the feathers in his colors. Hoping your stress-level has coming a lot lower, after this great result. Oh, I very well know what stress can do ....'(

Beautifully captured, and sorry to read about the stress you are feeling. I know I have been through a lot of it as well this past year, but for me I try to stay as busy as I can and that helps to erase some of it, I hope for the birds release still, I heard I had just missed you the day you went out to the lake, I was sorry to miss you. And maybe I can suggest taking some sort of photography hike/workshop or class they have been very inspirational to me. Good luck.
