Description
As this bird matures the dark of the head and face will be replaced by whitish gray and featherless. A clean face makes eating dead things less messy afterward.
This bird is a sweetie for a wild bird. Rainbow colors are reflected minutely in the fine feathers.
I am likely not so handsome to this bird as another black vulture.

Even they are cute when thier young. Excellent capture!
really impressive!
Kind of cute when young....I do love watching these soaring overhead. I prefer them to the Turkey Vultures.
Wonderful closeup!
Wonderful photo.
Nice buzzard. Like all vultures they have bald heads . I've seen 5 turkey vultures taking care of road kill. They can smell decaying flesh.
Oh, Tom! Next to the Barn Owl this is my second choice on my list of the most fascinating of birds. It is so necessary to the balance... and so very unique in its behavior and ability to stay aloft. Stellar shot and I hope we get to see him as he matures and gets his bald face.
A wonderful capture, Tom. You got so close. Hugs. Diane. xx
Great capture, he looks cute at the moment :o)
