Description
This is an update on the nesting Great Blue Heron, with 2 chicks, that I posted about a week ago. Herons are about 46 inches (117cm) long and a wingspan of 72 inches (183cm). Breeding adults have a yellowish beak. Non breeding adults have a yellower beak.
Taken at the Wakodahatchee Wetlands, February 19th.

Fantastic capture, Dana! very proud parent there. Probably wishes he/she were deaf at times, dealing with the constantly hungry chicks

Really great! Can't wait to make it up there some time!
Ultra superb capture of the mommy blue heron, wearing what appears to be a wispy feathered shawl, standing guard in the gigantic nest with her pair of youngsters pleading for attention, Dana!
She's awesome! Excellent shot, Dana!
Spectacular image!

Show! Great image!
Gorgeous Blue heron big one
Mom/Dad is beautiful! I love the thin, streaky feathers! The chicks are very cute. It looks like they are practicing fencing. Excellent capture of their huge nest! What is that in the bottom right corner? It looks like an extra wing. Wonderful shot!
Excellent capture! I am surprised it's letting you so close to it's young.
Wow!
Absolutely wonderful! This series of bird pictures are fabulous but this one is exciting. I looked back over the last few weeks and saw the chicks when they were young then looked eagerly to see your next photo of them, grown a little. To be able to get so close must be a wonderful feeling. I wonder if the feathers at the bottom right was another weaker chick which has been thrown out by it's mum - any ideas?
Great capture.
