Description
What a difference a day makes.
On our little vacation, we started out in Minnesota where the weather was very nice. We drove clear across South Dakota, stopping at the "Corn Palace" along the way. Of course we had to stop in Wall, because just about as soon as you enter South Dakota you see signs along the side of the highway advertising Wall Drugs. We stayed the night in Wall, so we'd have a fresh start the next day for our visit to "Mt. Rushmore", and "Chief Crazy Horse" Monuments.
The day started out beautiful and sunny. When we arrived at Mt. Rushmore the sky was blue and the sun was shining. By the time we left Mt. Rushmore on our way to Chief Crazy Horse the clouds had rolled in and it began to rain.
After our day of sight-seeing in the Black Hills we headed to Deadwood, where we stayed the night. I was soooo excited to be in Deadwood. There is quite a bit of history there! We were supposed to stay several days and tour the city, cemetery and anywhere else we had the whim to go.
During the night a winter storm blew in and it began to snow. When we woke up everything was covered in a layer of white, and it was still snowing. Having not prepared for winter weather we had to leave... we had no chains or snow tires. I was so disappointed to be leaving. But before we went I took a few photos and even ventured into Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
So my next few uploads will be of the Deadwood area. They are full of good and fun memories for me! Snow and all :) (Had it been up to me, we would have stayed!)
My previous upload, "Gas Tank". Thank you for your comments and visit to my gallery.
Have a great day~

Great shot and info. I was there with family in the 1970's. Saw the cemetery where Wild Bill Hickock and Calamity Jane were buried. The cemetery was on a steep hill. Coming into Deadwood back then was breathtaking. You drive down into the city from a big hill. I heard that it's all built up now with casinos and tourist places, etc. Viewed Mt. Rushmore. Also saw the Wall Drug signs for miles and miles. Will enjoy seeing your photos to see how much things have changed since.
We like this a lot. We have even discussed doing like a train excursion of the national parks out west where you stop over night in these western towns, Everything you need is on the train.
A wonderful shot, about the railways construction I suppose with this train on the walla. I appreciate very much your little road's book with some details about weather !
Cool capture of the monument or structure signifying the name of the town, Melinda. Deadwood, SD, noted mainly for the town where Wild Bill Hickock was shot in the back and killed by the cowardly Jack McCall while playing cards in a saloon.
very nice shot.
One thing I remember about our drive to the area, was we stopped at this big western store, and me and my sister and my cousins all got these suede fringe vest... boy were were a cool group LOL Love this series.
Very nice!
I have yet to go there as well as the other places you've mentioned in the past, but I have to say I'll get there eventually. What I really like about this photo (if I had to single something out) is the trees in the background, the way they play all sorts of interesting shapes and implications off in the distance...trees and snow...wonderful combination, and it adds a nicely ethereal quality to this picture, especially since the color of the bricks is so warm. This is really nicely composed and presented.
