Description
This is a female Anhinga. The brown neck is the key ID, as the male has a black neck. They fish underwater and when they surface, only the neck shows for a few seconds before they are back underwater chasing their next meal. The underwater fishing soaks the feathers and when they are done they sit with their wings spread to dry out their feathers. They are about 35 inches (89cm) long with a wingspan of 45 inches (114cm). They have very similar habits to the Cormorants. Taken at the Wakodahatchee Wetlands, February 2nd.
