Description
This is a nesting Great Blue Heron with 2 chicks. Trying to get the best shot of Mom, while the chicks heads have popped up, was not an easy task. So here are the 2 chicks and not so good shot of Mom. This nest is much higher than previous years and a bigger challenge. Herons are about 46 inches (117cm) long and a wingspan of 72 inches (183cm). Breeding adults have a yellowish beak. Non breeding adults have a yellower beak. I have seen Herons as far north as New Hampshire.
Taken at the Wakodahatchee Wetlands, February 2nd.

How fantastic this is! Wonderful shot, Dana!
Questo e' l'airone cinerino da noi, ne ho fotografato uno stamani ,ma non sono riuscito a avvicinarmi , èvolato via in mezzo ai campi che sono ancora fangosi. Bella cattura di questo esemplare . This is ash heron from us, I photographed one morning, but I could not get close, evolved away through the fields are still muddy. Beautiful capture of this specimen. http://www.agraria.org/faunaselvatica/aironecinerino.htm
Marvellous, Dana!
Outstanding image, I am so jealous. I could never catch the chicks in their nests when shooting in the Merritt Island preserve.
amazing shot .. !
Excellent!
Very imposing to this stature my friend. The larger they are and the divine they are in their flying like. Bravo still and mile mercies. Always a work of Big boss what?? ((5++)) Très imposant cette stature mon ami . Plus ils sont gros et plus ils sont divin dans leurs vol. Bravo encore et mile mercis . Toujours un travail de grand Chef quoi??((5++))
