Description
A Northern Jacana forages on lily pads for insects (hence it's nickname, "Lily Trotter"). Notice the very big feet-- this gives the bird the ability to walk on floating vegetation.
I was testing out the textures for my latest bird and the composition struck me as something worth posting... so here it is :)
This particular Jacana is found from coastal Mexico to western Panama, and on Cuba, Jamaica and Hispaniola. It sometimes breeds in Texas (United States), and has also been recorded on several occasions as a vagrant in Arizona (United States). It's preferred habitat is shallow lakes, rivers or streams covered with floating or floating-emergent vegetation in tropical areas.
In Jamaica this bird is also known as the 'Jesus bird', as it appears to walk on water.
Rendered in Poser Pro with very minor post (to the water). Models include Lisa's Botanicals (water lily), Nerd3d's water disk (from Waves at the beach) and of course my feathered friend (from Songbird Remix Jacanas (not yet released))
