Description
Although the title is Autumn Light, this image was taken in June, and the light was fairly flat. There was no water nearby.
This is all about the postwork!
Here's my point in telling you this: if you have an image that's sort of "mehh-hh," play with it! Use filters. See what you can come up with. The more I play, the more I learn, and the more fun I have!
This started out as a nicely composed but rather dull image. The light, the drama, the water, was all a construct.
Whether you like the result or not, the point is that this image has a totally different feel to it from the original, and you can do anything you want!
Get busy! Play around!

great colours and composition. you are so absolutely right about the possibilities of postwork and if you learn a lot you can go a long way with that and it becomes a separate art.

Very nicely done. Digital photography allows for such freedom of artistic expression, and this is an exquisite example of this expression. Digital expression is what Renderosity is all about, after all.

I agree with you Tara. It is amazing what we can do with a photo, that was not exactly how we wanted it to be . This became soo beautiful and now it is my fav.
What Arthur calls a 'wowser', I believe! Very clever, and I particularly like where the tip of the thin lobe touches the 'water'. Beautiful!
I must admit to being a bit old fashioned when it comes to tweaking my pictures, too many years working on B&W and Colour in a real darkroom, I tend to only use Dodge and Burn, tweak the colour and contrast and crop,this is like doing combines that would have taken days if not weeks ,I think I may give it a try after all I've taken to Photo-merge for panorama's these used to take days the old way but it still feels like cheating. Apart from that, the shot and post-work is great so ignore me and carry on regardless.

Having seen this in its' original form, the transition is remarkable. It has gone from a nice image of some handsome leaves to a real piece of art. The kind I'd be proud to frame and hang in any room of my home. I also like the encouraging remarks to remind us anyone can do this given any photo editing program and yes, some time. But you know what? What used to take me a half an hour to do in postwork, now takes me only about 10 minutes. Your point is well taken. Thanks very much!

Sterling effects in this postworked capture. I especially like the jagged oscilloscopic wave emanating from the bottom tip of the leaf. I could have sworn there was water down at the bottom of the image. Postwork reigns, and is the raison de'etre for all things in existence!
