Description
Morning sun.
A second upload today to capitalize on yesterday's blue sky.
The 217 foot tower has an eternal flame and an observation deck providing a spectacular view. Here's the view: 360 degree panorama
This World War I Memorial was dedicated in 1921. It suffered age-related internal structural problems that caused it to be closed to the public c.2000.
Bad news: Like many of these things there was no money for repairs.
Good news: Funds were raised and the memorial was designated as the National World War I Memorial and reopened in 2006.

Very interesting perspective Bill. I find all of these types of memorials very humbling places.
Our sky certainly didn't look like that thanks so much for sharing!
Hey at least it had some good news in the end. AWESOME blue sky there wow!

Love the lighting...Beautiful shot & scene...
Keen shot and perspective, as others mention. Looks like a solemn setting.
wonderful place and photo!!
Very well done Bill, Really cool in full view!
I would love to see this memorial and take about a million pictures there. It looks like a wonderful spot!
What a beautiful place--great shot!!
This is a gorgeous shot of an amazing memorial. For some reason it reminds me of something ancient. Those vaguely amorphous figures flanking the tower look like weathered-down sphinxes and the tower itself looks Babylonian, or Persian or something and I can imagine it covered in weathered and faded inscriptions. I think that's what I like about memorials of this sort: they're timeless and hold an elegance all their own. You captured that wonderfully here.
Great shot. Glad it was restored. Our nations liberty needs to be restored too.
A stunni9ng composition!

fantastic perspective and picture!!!!
That is one tall structure. Great shot and angle. Love the contrast of the incredible blue sky.
Why does this remind me of a Polaris missile all set for launch? Stellar clarity, brightness, and the blue sky going through a smooth gradation of intensity, Bill.
