Embossed and even fluted.
I posted Trench Art on "mess kits" back on the 15th of July.
This posting is of Trench Art on brass artillery shell casings.
Interested in who made these? Here's a great site by an avid collector
Bill:)
P.S. Location: National WWI Museum in Kansas City, Missouri. My photo taken in early June 2009.

Fantastic, Bill! I've only ever seen these on the 'Antiques Road Show'. Such beauty from such killing artefacts.
Being a professional jeweler, I certainly recognize the time and skill needed for this work on brass. The shell case art is new to me and I am very grateful you have brought this to light with your fine photo. Remember anyone the tin can toys from early post war Japan? Those were not the art the shell casings exhibit but were also moments in the lives of those living then, too often now dusty and forgotten.
Very impressive....
it's wonderful!!!!!!!!
Very cool capture...quite interesting as well sice I've not seen these before Bill.
Facinating, Bill. Guess they had lots of time on their hands! Cheers, Clive
That's so cool! Impressive art. Very nice capture. :)
Very cool Bill!
Very impressive art Bill and a lovely image! I have also seen this on Antiques Roadshow on BBC Knowledge!!!! Guess Andrea and I watch at least one TV program!!! :)
Wow. Did not know.
Geez, I've got one of these huge casings and never really knew what to do with it. I made a lamp out of it at one point and then took it apart. Guess I need to find out how these were done and think about mine.....LOL
wonderful objects! Great shot!
wonderful picture!!
Its amazing what can be done, they are beautiful, I have looked on the site & there are some great ones on there.
Very impressive. Amazing how these shell casings have been turned into beautiful art.
Wow these look great Bill never seen them before. Certainly look like it would take a while to do..well one learns something new on here all the time lol.. Well captured.
Beauty...Mickeyrony would love this
Well, like many others here I have never heard of this before. Thank you for broadening my knowledge and for sharing that web site!
Amazing work ... these are beautiful! I love all the reflections. Wow!
superlative creations! trench art is really amazing and puzzling in some way. Excellent shot!
Gorgeous work and those are beautiful wow.
Incoming! What's this...I never even heard of trench art! This is amazing! The lighting really brings out the exquisite embossing on the shell casings, Bill. I thought at first this was something dug up from the catacombs of the pyramids in Egypt. I like the French Legionnaire standing guard in the back.
Brass?? Certainly not the easiest of mediums to carve on! This is impressive!
sure nice to see such excellent art and equally your shot
This is amazing, I never knew anything like this existed--it's beautiful!!
I am more intrigued by the back ground as I am in the art work, a great capture, really takes you in.
So interesting and beautiful samples and I love how you've presented them here.
These are superior works of art that I was not familiar with. A fine complimentary photo to the mess kit art. Hoprfully the craftsmen who made these survived the war.
thats simply fantastic!!
Yes!!! Far better captures than mine.. Have to admit.. lol Excellent work, Bill... Well done.. Rob..
