I am grateful to Larry (Networthy) for the inspiration for this one - we got to exchanging some thoughts after he saw my previous crowd scene and this is the result!
I just wrote copious notes on how it was done, but when I tried uploading they disappeared into the ether - so here is a potted version.
All the figures are Loretta Lorez (by Predatron from Daz3D), morphed and retextured and given props to give the feel of medieval soldiers. Several versions of this are then put in a Carrara grid replicator to form a column and another replicator is used to duplicate the columns! There are 10,000 figures in the whole scene, but you can't see them all from this view (count 'em!).
I had a number of comments on my last crowd scene about how much memory and power you need to render such scenes, but by using lo-res figures and replicators (similar in some ways to Vue ecosystems) then this image probably uses less memory than a single clothed V4 - and can render quite quickly. Sorry Poser and DS users, I don't think you can do this!

Whoa - truly awesome! The replicator trick is truly fantastic, and no DS cannot do this. As I've said before, I truly love Daz Studio, especially for small intimate scenes or portraits. But with replcator, dynamic hair, 3d paint, modeling, U-V editting, landscape tools etc. etc. etc. - C7 Pro is definitely calling to me... Only the wallet is holding me back LOL! Nice job Phil!

Very clever use of Loretta, Phil. And a great scene to boot. You've proven (once again) the software's just a tool. It's the user that creates the art.
