Description
Nope! This is a real railyard in Chicago just south of the Sear's Tower.
This is really worth a ZOOM.
Thought this looked pretty neat from my perch on the 99th floor. The river is the south branch of the Chicago River. Years ago the rail yards here were much, much bigger. Air freight, the Interstate highway system and trucks have really changed the way things move about the USA since the 1950s.

wow!!! great POV and photo!!!!
Wow lovely capture and POV, Instant Fav, as I am a railway buff too, Use to work on the NZ railways many years ago, in the loco department, Well done!!
Just think of all the switches that have to get thrown every day in order to keep everything in order. This is a great shot, and it makes my mind go!
I love all the bridges on the river which have to be raised. I count seven in a very small stretch. Great work, sharp and clear. Cheers, Clive
Fantastic view. Great shot!!
Very entertaining picture, a lot to see.
cool layout ;-)
Now we know where model railroad magazine get their diagrams for track layouts.
Very cool shot. :)
Great photo of an interesting maze of rails.
NEAT POV! lol Wow...what a railyard! I'd not want to be the guy in charge of the control switches...wow lol
Super shot Bill! Really cool lines and paths of the railway system!
nice lines :-) Great POV
There you go making me dizzy again :)...this would suit the tilt shift method, the lenses are silly money, but there are plugins and tutes on the net One particular plugin Bill is
Alien Skin Bokeh
I grabbed a 30 day trial of this and it is brilliant!
Another great pic, I love these. So much detail in zoom. Bet some model rail enthusiasts would love this, boys & their toys :o)
Astonishing!
I knew it was a Chicago shot from the thumbnail! Great capture. There are still railyards all over Chicago, but you are right about not as many or as big.
Wonderful capture and view, excellent well done..
Great shot and POV lots to see here!
Terrific POV, DOF and clarity on display in this one! Kind of reminds me of an electronic circuit board. Superb shot, Bill, although it doesn't do much for my acrophobia.
Zoom is a must!!!!! I love these kind of views and can not image living in such a place!!
excellent shot, very impressive. I read a lot about this yard at the times of the pork canneries!
Excellent....
Excellent shot! Glad you weren't on the highway. It looks pretty congested. Were the glass balconies open when you were there? I'd risk a sinking stomach to see that. Very interesting capture, definitely worth a zoom!
This looks a great layout for a model train. lol. A super capture from this great height and the zoom certainly shows up the details.
awesome aerial capture Bill. I love vantage points like this
Nothing model about it. Has to be a nightmare, to move freight there. The toy trains wouldn't have to move much, at least, to simulate the real situation. Double stacks and containers are also part of what's changed.
Really a great perspective from that height...
Wow, what a shot--might have to check that out soon!!
Great work on this Bill.. Came out really well and the DOF really gives it an impressive feel.. There, that sounded good anyway! lol... Cool stuff, my friend.. Good to see you back! Rob
