Description

November 11th, 1940 the bulk of the Regia Marina is anchored in the bay of Taranto Italy. Launched from the carrier HMS Illustrious a group of three Fairey Swordfish torpedo bombers put two torpedoes into the anchored battleship Littorio; The torpedoes , wrapped in cords, slipped under the anti-torpedo netting at a depth of 33 feet. The attack in three waves seriously affected the Italian Navy for the remainder of the war. Imperial Japanese Navy annalists studied the Fleet Air Arm methods used in this attack and applied some the same tactics in the attack on Pearl Harbor a year later. "Through his cunning He shall cause deceit to prosper under his rule; And he shall exalt [himself] in his heart. He shall destroy many in [their] prosperity. He shall even rise against the Prince of princes; But he shall be broken without [human] means. Wow ! As a former Navy man, I can say beautifully done! If I am remembering my history right, She was the first battleship to exceed the limits of the Washington Treaty (35,000 tons displacement). IIRC, after the war, she was taken by the United States, as compensation (?) but was scrapped shortly thereafter. Great job. 5++

Outstanding! Taranto isn't something you see recreated in 3d every day, splendid! You'll have to do the Italian frogmen in Alexandria Harbor to "bookend" this piece sometime!
