Description
This handsome fellow is the Burchell's Coucal (Centropus burchelli)! They are more often heard than seen here in South Africa!! They are very shy birds, but have a very attractive, characteristic call that sounds like water running out of a bottle which landed them the name of Rainbird. I have a lovely pair nesting on my property every summer! I hardly ever see them but once I hear them call, I always know that summer has arrived. i have captured this guy in the Kruger National Park and it was still done on film!!

Wonderful image Carin and they do sound like a gurgling bottle! And rather cuckoo in appearance like other species with the same name, but they tend to sing before the rain.. Nice dedication to a lovely guy
