Description

This handsome fellow is the Burchell's Coucal (Centropus burchelli)! They are more often heard than seen here in South Africa!! They are very shy birds, but have a very attractive, characteristic call that sounds like water running out of a bottle which landed them the name of Rainbird. I have a lovely pair nesting on my property every summer! I hardly ever see them but once I hear them call, I always know that summer has arrived. i have captured this guy in the Kruger National Park and it was still done on film!! The Count of Monte Christo, I presume. Sterling clarity and colors in this capture of another wonderful species of avian that I've never seen, heard or read of, Carin! I also like the branch and twig array.
