Description

I used my 55-200mm lens almost exclusively during the month of June. As a result, most of the pics I took that month were of Dragonflies, Reptiles, and some big bugs. The 200mm is doing a great job with those and without a doubt, I prefer it over my 18-55mm lens. However, for smaller bugs, the 200mm does not let me get close enough to fill the sensor with the bug. I plan on using the 18-55mm more often now that I have gotten somewhat familiar with my new D40X but in the meantime I still carry my Coolpix 7900 pocket camera for the little critter shots. For the past two days, I posted images of a big Robber Fly. This Robber Fly is a little one (1/2"-13mm). I also have some shots of it taken with the 200mm but this one taken with the Coolpix is much better. The "prey" is a new Fire Ant Queen. I have a number of images taken over several years that indicate this is a common "prey" for Robber Flies. More power to them, lol. Thanks to those who take the time to comment. Lee

Outstanding macro, Lee!!! It gives the illusion that his proboscis is much longer and that it is piercing the body of the ant! Great shot!
