Description
This is one of several baby Yellow-bellied Water Snakes that were born this Spring. It is about 1' long and smaller around than my little finger.
The red patches diminish with age.
This one was hanging in some branches a few inches above the water. He was waiting for a small fish, frog, spider, or bug to pass by. He was very intent on watching the water and I managed to get within about 4' of him. That is about the minimum focus distance for my 200mm lens. I have used this lens almost exclusively for the past month or so on everything except very small bugs and hand held critters.
Tomorrow I will start a short series showing a male and female for 3 different Dragonfly species.

Great shot
The variety of life on your land is very interesting! A lovely clear shot.
great foto.
Great shot!
Excellent Lee! I am thinking of trying an extension tube to shorten the minimum focus distance on the long lens. Unless I read incorrectly it gains you a little more flexibility. I will like to learn more myself about the set ups used for this type macro. I look forward to seeing your dragonfly series.
Excellent shot. It would seem from this that it is getting ready for a shed soon.
Great capture. Splendid details and focus.
This is perfect!!!!! Careful now...don't get yourself bit!
