Description

Set in the hillside at the rear of the central residence is a spectacular spring-fed statuary grotto known as a nymphaeum. The nymphaeum may have been the conception of the villa's patrons. One of them, Marco Antonio Barbaro, executed several of its statues and contributed other sculptural decoration to the villa as well. The influence of Palladio's patrons in the design and planning of their villa give Villa Barbaro an eclectic quality which certainly derives from the range of the Barbaro’s contacts, above all in Rome. In 1554 Raphael's Villa Giulia was the most spectacular new building in Rome: its stuccoes, its fountains, its impressive illusionistic frescos and the repetition of the circle throughout the building plan is reflected at Maser. There is an echo in the fountain nymphaeum of the ornately antique fountains and great garden schemes realised at Tivoli. Thank you for your kind comments.

I've actually been there and have seen the originals. Veronese was a wonderful painter, but then so were the other two.

The paintings reminds me about an article I've read in the National Geographic magazine many years ago. Thank you again for such wonderful details. This inspires me to study more about artists of those times.
