Description
I heat with wood, and it's a lot of work. I figure by the time I actually build a fire to warm myself up, I've handled it at least 5 times.
1--load it into the truck
2--unload the truck
3--stack the wood
4--fill the woodbox
5--build a fire
Today I bought a cord of hardwood--oak and madrone--and got it all loaded, unloaded, stacked and boy, does it feel good!!
The hardest part? Not taking a foto of every damn piece--madrone is a beautiful wood, with red tones and wonderful bark and details. The oak is still green and has lots of moss on almost every piece. And yes, once I was done, I DID take some pix--you'll see them soon!!

Now, that's a lot of firewood! But I thought you were going to tell us you sawed up the tree and split the wood before you loaded the truck:-) Like your collage...shows a lot of effort, pass the Ben-Gay please. It is funny, having been shown around your yard the other day, I feel right at home with where you are stacking the wood. Well done.
Wow ... you've been busy! I can't wait to see some shots of that wood close up.
Oh!! you have been busy!! Lovely collage
lol...busy lady x
I'm ashamed to say that my half load is still lying unstacked....!
Impressive!!!
an awesome deed, really!
Looks like a lot of work, so what sort of system do you use to heat with Marilyn ?
Wow, I'm impressed! I wouldn't know where to begin, but my wrists wouldn't allow me to do any of that. You da woman! Also looking forward to wood closeups... :)
You did the whole work alone? I feel so pitty on you.
On a cool night nothing beats a nice fire, a good book and a snifter of cognac. Looks like you've got a start on that. Great series.
Excellent group of shots, you did work hard there, I can't post a pic of what I did on Wednesday, there ain't an advisory tag for it ROFL!
I heated with wood for years, at least until I just couldn't cut and split my own any more and people around my area quit harvesting and the prices went up. I feel your pain! Nothing saturates like wood heat, and if you've got a good steamer for the wood stove, the house is bliss.
Well, like bmac62, I thought you were going to tell us you got out the old chainsaw, cut down some mighty trees, and then split them up into cordwood with a long handled axe. But, as depicted in your cool overall collage, you worked hard enough as it is in getting all that stuff neatly sorted and arranged. Oh, my aching GI back! Off to the chiropractor I go! Definitely worked off some calories there. Also, I see you're getting very creative by placing the separate photos on a large photo background.
Yup. Where I live I don't get firewood - central heating you see and no fireplace - but I have had to do this when I visit my son on occasion - if I want to have any heat while I'm there. I usually end up with a cord of wood because buying 5 or 6 bundles is about 1/5 of the cost of a cord and I hate the thought of leaving after a few days and them sitting there cold until I go back. Firewood is not cheap unless you are cutting your own...and that's another long project!
Excellent collage, very artistically done ! :)
I`m impressed Marilyn ,you must have muscles like Popeye lol :o) Mick
great comments, and I'm impressed too. I turn a valve for heat. (Don't laugh, that's one heavy valve...) Man, you must be one strong person to do all this. And I can't believe how much of it there is: That's a huge pile! As for wanting to photograph every piece, isn't that the photographer's dilemma? When they find a locale that's filled with shots, they don't know where to start? I'd think, with all that wood, you'd have shots for days to come (but you just said you had more shots, so apparently you're already on it). And btw, love that you used a background picture as your 'frame': Very good artistic thinking. Almost looks like a beveled mirror, until we see it's the wood on the grass. Great to see a piece of your day—I'm impressed with all you do to make your life your own.
