Description
A Lifetime of Choices
If we make 80 we have
Twenty years of spring
Twenty years of summer
Twenty years of fall
Twenty years of winter
Buds
Blooms
Falling leaves
Ice and snow
20, 40, 60, 80
Or 25, 50, 75, 100
Maybe only 3, or 19, or 37, or 51
Where is your mark on the wall?
Some get more
Some get less
No guarantee
No equal treatment for all
We know
Good times
Bad times
Rich times
Poor times
For some tragedy, for others a ball
We know
Tension
War
Peace
And then, maybe not much at all
Live large today
And regret tomorrow
Or live heads up
To prevent a Madoff fall*
Life is like a funnel
You can live
Small end to big
Or big end to small
When everything is said and done
Is it really just your call?

......
Where did this come from? Just been thinking about the first day of spring, babies being born, folks around here having birthdays, gaining and losing loved ones, relationships, the economy, freedom, the way we spend our time and most of all, about the daily choices we must make.
......
Special birthday of note today that got me thinking: Mark anahata.c
......
* "Madoff fall" is my reference to the scam artist of the year..., Bernie Madoff, who pleaded guilty on March 13, 2009 to cheating investors around the world out of billions of dollars.
......
BTW, I got up the nerve to write a little here based upon the encouragement of two of my favorite writers (and photographers), Marilyn (beachzz) and Tara (auntietk). Recommend you all give this a go...you might surprise yourselves:)

there is a bitter-sweetness to it all. WONDERFUL!
Brought tears to my eyes, what beautiful sentiments, so tender and full of expression. So Bill is this you in the photo? I am guessing that is you on the left. Great photo it sure captures a wonderful moment.
Superb, Bill!
Unique Post I saw 47 summer 47 spring... ;-)
Yes, your life is entirely your call. The material things you possess do not make your life, What you have done, or not done is all that matters in the end. Well Bill, you set me to thinking - should have let this dog drowse on.
Fantastic work Bill!
What a glorious sweep of time! I am amazed at how much you've packed into so few words. This is excellent, and I love the pic you've chosen to go with it.
Bill, you just rock--this is beautiful. Full of emotion, feelings, color and life!! And so very, very true!!
Great Bill. All-around great job here.
Very well said!!! It is what it is. You choose how to take it.
Wonderful words/thoughts. I think many of us have thought similar thoughts, but never put them together in such a perfect way. My compliments.
Stellar and profound prose in this perceptive birthday dedication to Mark, Bill! And, I always wanted to be a writer, so I put in a lot of time and effort, and now I are one.
very imaginative writing .looks like they are very relaxed
I came back to this 4 times because I wanted to let it sink (kind of like good wine)...First Bill (before I get to my connection), you couldn't have gotten a better inspiration than Marilyn & Tara: All thanks to them for inspiring you to post writing. This is very well written and I hope you do a lot more. Second, you got the feeling of looking at our age & lives & accepting what life brings, with a sense of embrace and accepting ease. And you did it with very compact phrases, nice rhythms, and you rhymed each stanza (!) after the first 2: It's a small point but a big one still, because rhyme has a way of carrying us unconsciously, of linking it all together, and that happens here. Very nicely written, a very 'up' way to share your reflections on life, and—third—linking me with it is wonderful, since this was a heavy birthday going into it, but like a dance going out. (It was heavy because of stuff last year, losses & the like.) I'm honored to be mentioned in connection to this...Then, the photo is wonderful—two souls in relaxed communion. And THEN—you listening, Madoff???—you gave BMadoff the best honor he'll ever get by putting him in this poem! Even if it's an unflattering reference, he got in your poem! Best damned thing that's gonna happen to him in an eon & he should be grateful 'cause he didn't earn it! Bill this is wonderful, and thank you for thinking of me with it: It's another wonderful birthday remembrance to make it one of my best, and your thoughts & way of saying them are easeful and touching. Hope you post a lot more. Ok, I've just taken up half the site, I'll stop now. Thanks ever so much for this...
Mighty fine work Bill! I'm impressed! And, a very 'chill out' looking picture to go with it! Nice! Rob.
Bill, these are beautiful words and so true. I like the picture that you chose to go with it.
Wonderful stuff Bill. Like the contempoary touch too. Makes one think!!
Thanks I've enjoy my visit as well.
Kudos to Marilyn and Tara for encouraging you, and bravo to you for taking the plunge into writing! Very well said, hope we see much more from you here. : )
I am really pleased that you have taken up writing as you certainly have a great talent for it. This is a lovely poem and when one looks back we certainly do make a lot of choices in our lifetime.
