Description
This is a repost for duncanooo, he was there. I was one of the three guys on the bridge and had all intentions to take a picture of the approaching aircraft, a KC-135E. But as it came toward us at about 300 mph and fully accelarating, the jet intake noise of the four engines was loud. I did the thing that came naturally, I held my ears and ducked.
I found out later from the co-pilot that they were flying about 90-ft. above the waterlevel. The bridge connecting Beale with Wake Island is about 12-ft. above the water, my eye level is 5.5-ft. above ground level. That makes the aircrat about 72-73-ft. above my eye level. So ducking was the prudent thing to do.
The flight was intended as a morale booster, and it achieved that - easily.
This picture was taken in March 1990 and later scanned.
Thank you for viewing and commenting, and thanks for any favs,Sig...

Amazing capture!
Wonderful capture Sig! :)
!!!!!!!!!!
I'd have held my ears & ducked too! Amazing!
I'm glad he didn't decide to fly under the bridge. A clipped wing KC-135 might be able to pull more g's but it doesn't cruise well.
WOW..!!!! SUPERB PHOTO AND EXCELLENT IMAGE..!!!

Morale booster???? who for ? the crew? certainly not you and your friends, that's for sure. Hell of an experience all the same, and glad you're friend stayed back to get the picture.
