Description
Thought of titling this, "The Explanation". However the expressive and handsome faces caught my attention even more than the intensity of the verbal exchange.
This was not hostile...just vigorous.
Taken by me long ago and far away. Please give this a zoom...it is well worth a click:)
I've recently uncovered a box containing B&W prints taken by me during a good year spent in Southeast Asia during 1965-66 (As an advisor in Vietnam).
Would have cropped my friend's back out of the photo, but no matter how I did it, cropping diminished the image.
Hope you find this interesting. If so, I'll pop up a few more. Where was Renderosity 43 years ago?
Thanks very much for your wonderful comments on my last posting, "The Ferry Ride"

This is a wonderful shot--and I think your friend's presence just adds to the overall effect. It reminds us of the presence we had in those days.
WOW! What an interesting image Bill. You saw and did things as an advisor we never did. Plus I think it was probably still the 'good old time' - if one can call any period over there 'good old time'. After the Gulf of Tonkin attack in 1964 troop strength increased rapidly. I was scheduled to go in that direction in May 1965 when they found out that I didn't have the proper paperwork to hold a secret clearance. So my orders were cancelled and a background investigation was started. Seven months later, and becoming a US citizen the following year I arrived in-country in June 1966. Scenes like the one you are showing were beyond our reach. I bet this photo holds a lot of memories. I am looking forward to more Bill!!!! Sig...
Interesting photo. Looks like they are haggling over the price of something.
Great capture! I agree, cropping would have lessened the shot. And Yes, do post more. : )
Actually I like your friend in a picture, I see what he sees. Interesting human interaction.
An interesting capture with a lot memories. Aloha
a wonderful shot ! very interesting ...great expressions !
Really interesting photo Bill!
Absolutely fascinating!!
Fantastic photo with an obvious story to tell...!!!!
Looks to be intense bargaining.
Fantastic image Bill! Lots of action in this b&w!
Amazing work !! :)
Great capture shakes up memories from the past.. Smell the smells, hear the sounds of the market. From the expressions, can only imagine what the discussion was about...
They look so intense. Great shot! :)
Great shot!!
Excellent mix of reality and photography art.
Nice work Bill, a heated debate looks like!
What a wonderful slice of life you have captured here, Bill! The intensity on their faces is evident, and I'm sure holds special memories for you!
I'm so glad you didn't figure out how to remove your friend from the picture! I think he adds to the mood and takes away nothing. Thank you for sharing this bit of the past with us. I would love to see more of your photos from that time!
1965!? I would never have guessed, my friend! what else have you got in your box of of 'oldies'? These are great. Well done on postwork, if you did any? Just well done!!! Rob.
even in bw it is very colorful image. the tension is obvious
Interesting shot and excellent presentation :)
Arguing about quality or price? Surely not a debate between the South Vietnamese and the Viet Cong. Great POV to capture the contrast and dynamics in this shot, Bill. Believe it or not, I have really old Leica 35mm black and white photos from my tour in the Philippines, but they're all glued to pages in an album.
excellent timing and high contrast b&w
it's amazing what these shots bring out in your viewers. A world to tell...This is an amazing shot, one of those gathering-shots that teems, that pile-on us with human energy, conflict, coming-together, separation (some faces seem miles away), argument, even boredom and a soldier in front connected to it all. Bill, were you a photojournalist at some point? Because this really has the feel of true photojournalism, the way it captures a world of human interaction in a single shot. This is marvelous. Should you post more? Well, I'm late because I've been away for a week, but yes, yes, yes. This is wonderful, and your experience is invaluable to everyone. My gratitude! Amazing work.
What was such a heated discussion about I wonder? This is fantastic Bill and i for one would love to see more like this and any you have. Excellent capture of a moment in time my friend.
EXCELLENT image!
What's really amazing and at the same time disturbing is that the picure is 43 years old....and we are that much older now:)
Please do them coming. I love history and I always wonder when I see pictures of people where and what they are doing now.
