(Jane's Aircraft Recognition Guide 1995)
The Su-27 has vectored thrust. The first footage we saw of the 'Cobra Dance', a maneuver where the aircraft changes the flight direction suddenly by pointing the nose vertically before it is dropped back to the original attitude, two things went through our minds. 1) Stress on the airframe and 2) stress on the pilot.
Vectured thrusts enables aircraft to perform maneuvers previously impossible.
This aircraft was photographed at the Berlin-Schoenefeld Airshow in Mai 1998 and later scanned.

I remember seeing the footage of the cobra dance for the first time. It took some convincing before I would believe the footage wasn't faked. Cool photo!
Unbelievable machine. Great image:)
Great shot.

This is one of those situations where the intellectuals are telling me I am at a big disadvantage. If I just kill it or try to just kill it they will send morons to my house to take my weapon away. What can I say? Nice pic. Some people have mice and others have cockroaches. I have Flankers.
Looks like a beauty Sig... I can unfortunately not pretend that I know anything about aircraft!!! LOL... :)
what a beautiful jet! ,.wonderful shot of it !
Didn't know that the Flanker has vectored thrust...I am impressed. Both with your photo and the aircraft itself. I'll bet YouTube has footage of the "Cobra Dance"...I'm going to check it out. Bill
Thats a strong & Beautiful Jet
Reminds me so much of a giant mosquito who means serious business. :-) Great pov.

Awesome Shot!!
Wow! An awesome machine some of us would be unlikely to see up close like this but for your sharing. Thank you.
Think I have seen a video of that maneuver...very impressive to say the least.. zoom in gives a good look here..
Fantastic! I wish I could go up in one!
Impressive aircraft!
wow!!awesome photo sig wonderful aircraft..
Great shot! Saw the plane perform this at RAF Mildenhall, England. At an USAF display. Amazing to see. Must be extremely stressful on the pilot, much like 'viffing', the act performed by harriers where they reverse there vectors in flight. Thus slowing and dropping or gaining altitude very quickly. No normal combat plane can follow this. It was used very successfully in the Falklands where Mirages and Skyhawks were knocked down a plenty! Great pic and info, Rob.
great POV !
Great!
Cool bird, excellent shot!
