Here is a view of a Grumman F8F "Bearcat" to compliment debbielove's fly-by underside view per drace68's request.
The Lone Star Flight Museum in Galveston took a whipping from Hurricane Ike. The planes that could be flown out are OK, but those under repair or restoration were out of luck, as were the displays in the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame. Drop by the website for a look see. http://www.lsfm.org/

Nice! If memory serves (and it's 50/50 most days), the Bearcat was actually the Angels' first ride. Tallpindo's post makes me wonder, too. My first thought is to rocket-power, like the ME-163 and Natter. Then I think something like the A-10, with piston engines & pusher props in those nacelles... You could get some wicked performance out of a warbird design built with modern composites!
