Description
John G Slover was my great grandfather and he made all the intricate wood work with a feet driven scroll saw which is still on the property
the Marguerite Rogers House Museum, built by John G. Slover in the early 1900's, is located at 113 East Dumble in Alvin, Texas. In 1938 James A. and Marguerite Rogers bought the house. The Rogers' daughter, Emaline, bequeathed the property to the Alvin Museum Society in 1995. The Society restored the home and named it Marguerite Rogers House Museum, in honor of Emaline's mother.
needless to say I was gone yesterday to Houston and Alvin Texas.I will try and catch up in the next couple of days

Awesome lighting and love the b&w!!! :D
That is also when people work harder and made things that would last you should be and are proud love the B & W that's what I wanted for my house but instead it's black & blue lol:: wonderful story ::
Fantastic capture. These older homes have a style that will never be matched by the ones today. Craftmanship was something to be proud of then. Bunny
Fantastic work, your Grandfather did here. Must have taken him awhile. Great shot of it too. I'm glad to see this house is still in such good shape, especially considering the weather (Ike). This one piques my interest particularly because I'm originally from Texas City, just down the road.
Wonderful!
So now we know where you got your artistic tallent! :) Lovely Home!
Nice one, great effect.

Great shot! This is such a wonderful historical presence. I'm so glad that it was preserved.
It's great that someone thought enough of it to preserve it for future generations..

The scrollwork is so neat--I am always happy to see such imaginative decoration on homes! I like how the pic looks like a vintage photo!

Looks like a property from that programme ,This Old House with Steve and Norm :o)..Excellent capture Richard Mick
Nice perspective !
What a great place... and so beautifully photographed. The wide-angle and the monochrome are fabulous for this.
Looks like a house on that old film 'The Birds' a bit spooky , particularly in monochrome. Great shot. Dave
Nice capture and interesting background info Richard!

I concur with JeffG7BRJ and everyone else. This is quite an historical find for you and your family and a lovely photo, too.
