Description

I was drive by after church by these feild of sugar cane and saw these cane cutter cutting this feild of cane. I saw a big car by the feild and this old almost 90 year old man was watching so I walked over to him and talked.[wish I took his photo now] He say they cutting the fouth year growth of cane for the storms of this year was not good on them. I find out they do plant cane when I show you a month or so ago and now they harveing the cane now. I took this shot a few weeks ago. They use some of the first year growth to plant new feilds and they let the cane they cut that year to grow and cut each year up to the forth year. The forth year is the worse growth but they still make money on it. It like a gamble with it. Like I say they lose the forth year this year because of the two big storms we had. the rest of the cane is good. they will cut it and burn it the next day. this man had to get out and fix something on the cutter. thanks for looking and comments

I agree with Dennis-- This really looks dangerous. Maybe isn't, but being in front of a machine is about as risky as being in back of a horse.

Great pic of the cutte,r and explanation about cane. That the fellow is in motion helps lift this pic out of the ordinary.

We often forget how hard, how tiring and how long the days are for farmers and ranchers. It's not just sitting on a seat driving machinery, it is repairing, maintenance and overseeing as well. Great shot, Jock!

Yeah, it's really annoying when your machinery breaks down and you can't get the job finished on time ! Nice action capture Jock ! ~Cheers~

Hack and slash! OMG, that is one big mother! You can really raise cane with that! Looks like something out of a Star Wars movie! Excellent photo of the monster, Jock, with the driver included to give it a size relationship.

Yikes! A brave guy this man is! I don't think I'd care to step inbetween those cutters even if the thing was turned off! That's one viscious looking piece of machinery!
