Description
I was down at the beach at the bird sanctuary in Edmonds last spring, hoping to catch the heron doing something interesting. I was able to get a few decent shots, but nothing like what I would have liked!
So there I am, creeping down the beach stalking this heron, snapping away like mad, wondering how close it will let me get. This lovely family of four was walking up the beach toward me, kids laughing and playing and running around. They walked right past the heron (who totally ignored them), and stopped directly between my camera and the bird.
Mom whips out her camera, and I thought, "Oh wow ... she's going to get a GREAT shot of that heron."
Denise, are you just wetting yourself over how close this woman was to that gorgeous bird? She never even looked at it.
Cute kids, though, I must admit!
This is NOT a manipulation, btw. The bird really was right there!

A bird in the surf is worth..no....thats not how it goes..but..you did get all the action...and a nice dedication..
What is wrong with her! Doesn't she know the rules? NO kid is THAT cute, kids mostly stay still--herons don't! Ah, the wasted opportunities....I'm beginning to feel like Captain Ahab, chasing my Moby Heron... :)
A tryely funny story, and sad in a way. Great shot to accompany the story.
Too funny. The kids you can get anytime. Fantastic capture. Should have told them that they ruined your shot. Awesome.
LOL at Denise---be careful, look what happened when Ahab finally DID get that whale--you know how I love this shot, Tara, it's just great.
Fantastic capture my friend.
Beautifully captured. Love the composition!
Well my thought is, the kids will be around for a few years but that bird will fly off any minute. LOL
a very nice image!
What a shot! Hilarious!
Nice capture!
Well, you cant blame her for only seeing her kids can you :))) But I can see it from your side of the fence. Really DARN !
Fascinating story and realy a great title. This is when cute bab takes all the attention and poor nice heron get ignored totaly.
Its amazing what people do not see. Great photo, though!
LOL it figures :o) came out a good shot n story anyway
Fantastic capture! :)
I'd take a little different view on this one. Remember what it is like when you only have/had eyes for the ones you love? You just happened to get two pictures in one. Couldn't be a better title. Bill
Herons are six of one and half dozen of another, you find some you could waltz with and some that'll flee if you clear your throat, guess our poor Denise hasn't found the bold one yet, her time will come! :(...Great candid sweetie!
Cool, excellent capture!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
See what happens in ignorance ,you get close enough to nearly touch the bird lol :o)..Excellent shot Tara Mick
there are times I would love to ring some necks. But this is great; lol you got both!
lol
lovely shot !
A sweet story to accompany a most delicate and beautiful composition! A lovely scene indeed! With such a comforting and warm feel.... you are most talented and gifted :)
awesome capture, Tara May warm hug and love, Linda Kaye
I guess by the time they moved away so did the heron. I had to chuckle over this all the same.
she missed her shot of the bird. cool shot and happy halloween
great capture
lol....and a excellent shot
It is amazing what people don't see, especially when it's RIGHT THERE in front of them...I think it's the human brain's innate talent of editing things out. Great shot though, and ironically enough, the heron is doing something interesting. Well...if you look at the fact that he's so solidly in a picture that is NOT focused on him. Great shot!
