Description
The sky is a hazy, green curtain. Featureless.
A charcoal bird flies overhead; others chatter in the distance, their voices are shrill and metallic.
Though he has expected at least a whisper of snow on the őa bushes outside of his sleeping-room's window, there is none. Now, as he walks past the brew-house, condensation beads on to toes of his shoes. Cold dew. It drips from the branches of the river-bordering stand of hli and aiû. They are long past the bearing of fruit, but a few berries cling, stubbornly to the dew-slick branches.
An omen will arrive in less than five finger-lengths on any grand clock; and so, Liébo makes his way to the castle slopes. He is late, but he has seen omens before; there is little of novelty that he expects today. It is too wet, too cold, and his truer, wordless desire is to duck into the brew-house and buy a drink. Jāolyn is there—as always—smoking a cigarillo laced with sweet and focused on his book. If there are patrons, he tends to them, wordlessly...but there is emptiness in the street here. Those few who ride their bi-pedals or walk are, like Liébo, uninterested in the approaching omen.
He smells hints of it now, and remembers the promise he has made. To Líesh. It is the promise that takes him to the castle slopes, and the thought of Líesh...waiting so patiently.
”You used to enjoy being my brother.” Líesh said, in relentlessly chiding tones. “Are you so different now that you've got hair that marks you as a man?”
”I'm still your brother,” Liébo answered, his cheeks hot with a blush.
So now, wordlessly, he walks.
—To meet his brother...
....To see the approach of yet another omen.

Though my camera is currently broken, I was able to borrow one. The base image of this manipulation is of Pivovarska Street in the town of Český Krumlov. I've visited this town many times, and for as much as I love Prague, Český Krumlov has become the second half-mad seductress in my life. It is a beautiful, Medieval town, dominated by an enormous castle. Eggenberg beer is the local brew, and the building in this image is actually of the Eggenberg brewery.

This is great. The candid scene plays out nicely. Two figures in the same shot and, yet, they seem to be in different worlds joined by a thread. Great one.
I love this capture, and the mixture between sepia and some little blue light... Looks pretty retro, and I love the grain, too. Great narrative comment as usual!!
The story goes well along with the image. I've never been to this place but your post helped me to visualize myself over there walking the narrow streets. Regards, Igor.
Skillful photomanipulation here to add a lot to the enigmatic atmosphere of your story. I like this one especially because I know (and like) Eggenberg beer and never had a clue where it comes from :-)
Keep that camera as long as you can; your fotos are every bit as stunning as your words. I'll follow along as you take me thru the streets of this place. I love your line, "the second half- mad seductress", whew, do I know about THAT!!
words and photos of great art you are one of a kind 10+
GREAT sepia picture about a isolated village !

BEAUTIFUL WORK & IMAGE :)
I really look forward to these snippets of another world that you give us; you're a talented man!
Marilyn and Mina took the words right out of my mouth. " ... the second half-mad seductress ..." My friend, I wish I'd written that! Awesome craftsmanship.
Wonderful. Glad you were able to borrow a camera. Fabulous words and capture
love this capture and the use of color tone
I like the dreamy quality your postwork has given this shot, it makes your story of an omen all the more intriguing. : )
everything is still, even people... great atmosphere!
Wonderful work :)
Image well postworked and sepia toned, atmospheric narrative. Dave
Movement and life!!!
Dear Chip, love your words and capture !!! Excellent 5+++++++++++++++ Hugs:):):)
Tood 'atmosphere' photo. Tying the photo to the story is well-done. The figure at left (standing in the street) is a little disquieting to me. Unlike the cyclist, he doesn't seem to cast a shadow. Which raises the question: would he show up in a mirror.
Great to have friends like that. Nice mood to the story, well reflected in the photograph.
