Description
Twenty-eight in a series of classic vehicles, captured 9/21/08, at the beautiful Palos Verdes Concours d'Elegance, held annually at the beautiful Trump National Golf Club on the beautiful Palos Verdes Peninsula in overpopulated Southern California.
For more information on this event, see my posting for 9/28/08.
The last of my Jaguar postings, and a cherry one at that.
The XK 140 was introduced in October 1954, retaining the classic XK lines, but with major changes in engineering and appearance. A chrome strip ran down the length of the hood and another on the trunk lid drew attention to the medallion in the middle that proclaimed the marques Le Mans wins. The car wore sturdier bumpers and a tougher grille and with the C-type head developed for the XKC Le Mans race cars, the motor made 210 hp at 5,750 rpm.
Inside, the front seat and dashboard remained the same, but with considerably more leg room than the XK 120 because the engine block was moved forward on the chassis. There was also space behind the front seat. The Special Equipment models were fitted with wire wheels and Lucas FT576 foglamps mounted above the front bumper. The dual exhaust system had two separate silencers and ran through holes in the chassis cross members, emerging below the rear.
The owners may find it necessary to show off their shiny spit and polish engines, but as a photographer I don't care for raised hoods/bonnets at a car show. I just want to shoot the auto with everything in its place, as if it was out on the street in driving mode, all neat, curvaceous and tidy.
Thankx for dropping in, and have a tendentious Tuesday.

super love the color. if I had one it be this one. cool pov and shot
Look at that wood paneling....candy for the eyes. Excelent double capture in different angles. Truly a fascinating series, I have not seen that many cars in a bunch day after day.
These are gorgeous cars. I had an old boyfriend who had an XK-150. He left it with me when he went off on a cruise (he was in the Navy). I drove it to work one day and the steering wheel fell out. I called a friend to fix it, and there were parts left over. When he got back and started it up, the horn went off and wouldn't shut off. I had to tell him what happened. Needless to say, that was the end of THAT relationship!!!
I am in love and this is the object of my affection :-) However, beachzz experience above was a little more common than anyone likes to admit. But your color photography and presentation is A-1. Thanks for this heart throbe. Bill
Great capture, nice car... but I'm a Chevy fan! Congrats!*****
What a great color~ Another beauty in your Classic Car Series, which I have been enjoying.
Another great piece of machinery...and obviously never driven on the street.. another nice image..
Beautiful pics, Harry!
Ooh, I like this one; nice and shiny, somewhere on it is my name....great captures!
Fabulous captures Harry, this jag is a beauty!
fantastic car model and great details....lovely done!
Has many stories to tell. Each pull knob and twist handle has a feel to convey. The underhood reminds us of how far it is from 1954 to 2008. Silence isn't golden in sports cars.
Wow, what a beauty! That cherry color is divine! And look at that instrument panel, and the leather driving gloves! Cooooool!
wow a really noble car. Harry...fine shots!
