Description
Nikon 7900 pocket camera, hand-held image.
I thought this capture might be of interest to some. It shows a Gulf Fritillary Butterfly caterpillar (about 3mm long)that has just recently emerged from an egg and one (about 2 inches long) that is about ready to encase itself in a chrysalis.
The big one will have enough time to emerge as a Butterfly this year and mate but it will be iffy for the small one I think.
Thanks to those who take the time to comment.

Amazing in the size difference. They go grow quickly and I hear you are having warm weather still so perhaps it can eat fast and "do its thing" in time. Great comparison.
Great shot, you can just imagine the little one shaking his head and saying "some of us are just too greedy". Nice work Lee!
Wonderful macro.
Brilliant!! And the leaf shape is just a great bonus for the composition!

Cute little critter. Hope is becomes a big boy too.
Wow! Excellent capture!
Awesome find! Excellent
great shot, are those stings poisinous?
I like Alans comment here Lee, but on the other hand, the big one could be looking down on tiny saying 'If you want to grow up big and strong like me; you have to eat your greens'. It would make a good advert for healthy eating, do you know any advertising executives. #;0) Excellent capture and a great comparison shot. Bravo!!!!!
fantastic work... this is as good as it gets...well done
Superb capture. I didn't realize they grew like that. Bunny

That is a wonderful find. The contrast of the 2 is awesome. They also make beautiful butterflies. Great post man.
It really looks like little brother getting advice from big brother, especially the way the little one turns its head. Wonderful shot! And great colors.
