Description
Picture was taken from Hells Gate (elev. 2,262-ft) which is located along highway 374. View is toward the south.
Death Valley is an example of the Basin and Range topography of the American Southwest.
On 10 July 1913 a temperature of 134F (56.7C) was recorded at Furnace Creek (178-ft. below sea level). This is the highest temperature ever recorded in the Western Hemisphere.
This picture was taken on 23 September 2008.

One gets no sense of being compressed here or at Salton Sea. The heat, the mornings, the evenings, even the organ at Scotty's castle are worth the trip.

Not the most hospitable place on the planet Sig, I remember seeing a person training for a marathon here one time. It's quite a few years back, and there was a documentery on it at the time. I remember thinking then it was a harsh place to be training. Excellent capture. Bravo!!!!!
