Description
Cause this guy can scream! My loud and aggressive but beautiful visitor today! He chased all the other birds including hundreds of starlings away and even the squirrels don't hang around when he is here...I say he but I am not positive if he or she because they are nearly identical in color and markings.Info from Wikipedia:
The Blue Jay occupies a variety of habitats within its large range, from the pine woods of Florida to the spruce-fir forests of northern Ontario. It is less abundant in denser forests, preferring mixed woodlands with oaks and beeches. It has expertly adapted to human activity, occurring in parks and residential areas, and can adapt to wholesale deforestation with relative ease if human activity creates other means for the jays to get by.
The Blue Jay is a moderately slow flier (roughly 20-25M/PH when unprovoked) and an easy prey for hawks and owls, when it flies in open lands. It flies with body and tail held level, with slow wing beats. It is generally assertive toward other birds, and it may chase birds from feeders or other food sources. It may chase predatory birds, such as hawks and owls which occasionally feed on jays, and will scream if it sees a predator within its territory. It has also been known to sound an alarm call when hawks or other dangers are near, and smaller birds often recognize this call and hide themselves away accordingly. It may also be aggressive towards humans who come close to its nest, and if an owl roosts near the nest during the daytime the Blue Jay mobs it until it takes a new roost.
Blue Jays, like other corvids, are highly curious and very intelligent birds. Young individuals playfully snatch brightly coloured or reflective objects, such as bottle caps or pieces of aluminium foil, and carry them around until they lose interest. Blue Jays in captivity have been observed using strips of newspaper as tools to obtain food.

beautiful Jay . I love seeing them and cardinals
Excellent!
Very nice composition... excellent in fact - and I love that light quality. Lynn. Super image!
Cool looking shot and excellent read about them :)
The blue jay can be a fun bird to have around. They are a common sight here. Good capture Lynn, great reference information.
Nice shot, Lynn. Nice and interesting BlueJay facts. A rough bird it seems. :) But i love the singing of birds... I wake up every morning to the singing of birds. Great.. I live in an area with a very rich natural life.. A lot of birds and mammals...and i love it. :)+5
great capture...
Wonderful bird, UK birds are so drab by comparison, but that said, yesterday there was a beautiful finch on the fence, but alas, the batteries were on charge :(...don't it seem that way...the law of sod I guess :(...Nice capture again another candidate for the crop, but it's your post and your idea, so shut up RJ..LOL, Loved Alex's building in the challenge :)
BEAUTIFUL
Yes, they are loud! The jays here are emptying my bird feeders on a daily basis, and screaming at each other to get away all day long; you probably remember that ours are Steller's jays, though, bright peacock blue with black heads, very lovely but quite camera-shy! Nice capture of this blue screamer...
stunning bird ! I don't think we have this one in my country. I will make a research !
He's definitely a beauty and this is cute shot!!!
Very beautiful birdie and lol cool description! haha
Gorgeous colour! Very interesting info to go with this pretty shot!
Beautiful shot! :)
Wonderful shot of starlings. and interesting information. thank you!!
Fantastic shot.
Great capture! I love bluejays, in spite of the noise. I have a mockingbird that sings beautifully and I enjoy my backyard the best when she's visiting. However, she is rather spiteful at times towards my pups (and used to torment the cats, too)! Still, just to hear her myriad of songs was worth it!
hmmm he must be a distant relative to my parrots concerning the loudness...lol... a fine shot!
