Description
Slept in a house right next to this old cemetery in Eaton, Ohio. I didn't know the cemetery was there because I arrived after dark. In the morning I had to take a walk and look for a photo-story.
The photo to the left is a single family marker as seen from a distance. The three photos to the right show three different sides of the same marker.
This collage tells a little of the story of three young brothers who gave their lives for their country during the American Civil War (1861-1865). A little online research probably would reveal the units these men were in and the battles they faced in November 1861, as well as April and May of 1862.
As a father, I can imagine the anguish that J.B. and L. Minor suffered upon the loss of their three sons, one after the other. And particularly at such young ages. I suspect the Minors were farmers.
Makes you stop and think a little, doesn't it?
You can easily read the inscriptions when opening the image to full-size.

I'm probably strange but I like walking round old grave yards. There is a large one with near me, it has over 250,000 graves. I plan to go there on Saturday. Good photo here with some interesting history.
What a sad story & history ! But, dear Bill you made a very great job here (Interesting collage) !!!! "V":5*** :):):)

What a sad thing; 3 sons ...... :( You put together a lovely collage here.
One cannot imagine the pain this family endured. Wonderful collage, Bill. Hugs. Di. xx
Such sadness. Such a pointless War. much like our own civil War! Interesting shot, Rob
There are many around here as well, and some families lost more than three sons. Very nice historical image, Bill.
Don't know if they had more sons but I believe it was insidents like this that caused Abraham Lincoln to pass an edict/law/decree?? that no family should loose all it's sons in one war.Think thats correct but please correct me if I'm wrong. An excellent and interesting composition, the wars may change but the cost saddly remains the same. Thanks Bill.
oh my what a sad story... a tragedy for this family
