Description
Nikon 7900 pocket camera. hand-held image.
This is the last of the Imperial Moth pics. I have one more pic of a similar moth that I will post in a couple of days.
If you are interested in info on this moth, look at any of my last 3 postings. BTW - the full size image shows that this moth has 2 "tongues"(which I find strange since the researched info states that the adults of this species do not feed. Mother nature seldom creates appendages which are useless, lol. Maybe they are for drinking.
Thanks to those who take the time to comment.

....realy wonderful photo!!!!!!!!
Lee! How incredible! How magnificent. I can't believe I am looking at this month so closely and seeing such beauty in it.
incredible detail, a remarkable macro!
Amazing macro,
A magic capture
Impressive... Maybe the tongues are just "remnant" of what it used to feed... When it did ?
Fabulous looking creature.
It looks so soft and fluffy! Those colours are amazing, nature IS amazing. This moth is most beautiful. Thank you so so much for sharing.
Wonderful capture and macro, Excellent well done..
Such beautiful colors, a lovely creature this is, and a great capture.
...another gerat shot of this furry critter. Nice one lee. :)
Great macro, my friend. I think the tongues are for drinking water on hot days.
The proboscis does appear to be split in two all the way Lee, you can see the line all the way to the top. The Peppered Moth I posted a few weeks back showed a forked probiscis but this one looks like it actually has two side by side. Like you I find this very strange as you say the adult doesn't feed, yet I cannot imagine any other use for them. Mother nature has some strange ways I guess, and who are we to question them. The antenna on this one reminds me of a rams horns, the way they are ridged like that. Another excellent macro. Bravo!!!!!
Great capture!
Fantastica serie. *****
Wonderful macro!
I can see where they got Mothra from! Great Capture
