Description
I was sitting at the picnic table the other day chatting with the maintenance man when this guy showed up with his lunch! I could not believe my eyes, I have never seen a bee eating another bee. And this guy seemed to know I was watching him because he would sit until I moved to take the photo and then he would move about 5 leaves away and with my fear of bees it was really difficult for me to get close enough to take this, but I persisted and finally got him just as he was about to fly again.
Of course when he flew, it was straight at me so I almost dropped the camera trying to get away from him! But whew!!! I got away and so did he...So, I did an extensive search for any info I could find regarding bees eating other bees...found nothing! That makes me a bit uneasy because it speaks to how our planet inhabitants are changing. Not a pretty picture I think...
I wasn't going to post tonite because I am still sick but I decided I would just so I can let you know I will be offline the next couple days, keeping my fingers crossed that I will get some sleep and get better soon! Many thanks for all the well wishes, very appreciated! I will catch up on comments when I come back:-) Thanks for looking, reading and for previous comments!

ve had a look aswell and couldnt find anything .strange behaviour .excellent capture mickExcellent shot!!
Man, sorry you feel bad again, dude... and, the one with the bee in it's 'mouth', is a bumble bee, so i don't think he was eating the other guy. Most bees, and even with ants will carry wounded or dead members back to the nest (hill) to either give to the Queen to eat, or something like that. Really good pic though, it's really clear! And SOOOO brave getting close to him, lol! :)) BTW, it was a bumble bee so you're okay, they almost never sting cuz it kills them too! :))
Wrong gallery?
I agree with hydrocat, it's not really a bee but very interesting, I never thought the bumblebee would eat any other bee. Could it be that it was drawn by the sweet smell of the honey inside the bee? I hope you get well soon, good luck!
beautiful shot! :)
