Description
The Space Needle is undoubtedly one of the most recognizable bits of architecture around. The round part at the top houses an observation deck and a high-class restaurant. That's all it used to be, but now they sell souveniers and beverages, and it costs an arm and a leg to go up in the elevator. Nonetheless, Marilyn and I braved the lines and the wait and the people and the glass-front elevator to go up to the top and see the view!
Ahh yes ... and that round bit rotates a full turn every hour, so while you're dining in that high-class restaurant, you will eventually see the entire 360-degree view while sitting at your table enjoying something yummy.
The left-hand image is the Space Needle as seen from the ground, looking up.
The right-hand image is the shadow of the Space Needle as seen from the top, looking down.
Oh, here's an interesting little tidbit of information: In the last big earthquake we had about seven years ago, this building sustained ZERO damage. It's anchored to the ground by several bolts that are thirty-two FEET long.

Great capture! Specially love the photo of the shadow cast by the tower. Reminds me of the CN Tower in Toronto I visited once.
Excellent.
love the shadow you got . cool shots
Ate there on our first trip to Seattle thirty years ago, now you have to pay just to go up to the top. But it's worth it to watch the sunset on a good cloudless evening lol. Love how you've caught the shadow of it, right across Big Mac lol.
A pair of great images, the clear crisp detailed and the juxtoposition of buildings, rails and the shadow. All works very well!
Awesome collage of a tremendous structure. The view from the top would be fantastic I bet.
Wow, definitely more impressive than looking up a palm tree, that's for sure. Splendid clarity in these terrific captures of the structure and environs from above and below, my dear friend. Wouldn't it be something if the observation deck/restaurant were in reality a facade for a genuine ET flying saucer, just biding its time before it takes off, zipping away to a galaxy, far, far, away, with a host of startled patrons inside?
i
d just take a packed lunch lol :o)..this is one awesome structure and i dont why i have wobbly knees of late as heights never bothered me but the height of this does and im only looking at it .i take my time stepping off a pavement now lol :o)..i`d go for the shadow one aswell mickGreat duet!
excellent captures of this iconic building. looking at this, it's kind of amazing how much the future looks like the past...or vice versa
Great shot.... I was there two or three years ago and totally enjoyed it. Thanks for the memories. :)
