Not a particularly great photo, I know. But I couldn't resist posting it here for the associated story. I took this picture just over two weeks ago of this swan with her cygnets. The thing is, she only laid and hatched two eggs. Within a couple of days, she appeared to have picked up an extra baby. I didn't post it straight away as this is a very rare thing for swans to do and they normally get rid of the intruder, usually by killing it, very quickly. This swan, however, appears to have accepted the stray and now, two weeks on, they are still all together and the cygnets are growing up quite happily together. They still sleep in this enclosed area but are, of course, about twice the size they were in this picture. They are starting to look like little fluffy swans instead of babies. :-) ------------------------------- Original Photograph 13-Jun-2008
