Description
There you have it folks, the meaning behind the Thumbnail I used for the "Modern Living" project.
For a start, both projects are intended to be a reflection on our specialized roles in today's society. That it seems like our existence is more and more an "out-of-this-world" experience.
I can only hope that with "Hyper Reality" what apprears to be a StarGate is merely a symbolic representation of a common fictitious idea of our modern culture - it just so happens to be well suited for both projects.
You could say that I was fascinated and somewhat influenced by the Bigger-Than-Life attribute of a modern American exposed in a book called "America" by the author, Jean Baudrillard.

the clarity of your images always struck me, though there's more here than clarity...when the modern art movement began, it had a feel of ever-newness; and when you went into the old MOMA, you got that feeling in spades. It blasted newness...Well some of your images have that feeling, a perennial newness in the cleanness of your hues, the use of partial transparence (light always imparts newness), your use of pastel-hues as accents, and of course in the vision itself. If this is about increasingly separate roles, it also has some luminous hope and freshness, how you turn everything into a visual exploration and how it speaks with such clarity from your surface. I'm a total dunce at the media you work with, but from a visual point of view it's perplexing and vivid at the same time. And your background, which at first takes us away from the scene, actually feels affirmative & restful to me. Very articulate and very care-ful. In the Middle Ages, you probably would've made exquisite Illuminated Manuscripts. That's a compliment, though you'd have no doubt done a lot more...
