Description

Steam locomotive #90 operates on the Strasburg Railroad in Pennsylvania Dutch Country. The Strasburg Railroad is a heritage railroad which operates excursion trains between Strasburg and Leaman Place Junction on a 4 1/2-mile, 45-minute round-trip. The train includes America's only operational wooden dining car which allows visitors to dine while riding. This picture was taken on 5 June 2006. We have an old steam engine here and sometimes on weekends my grandson and I will ride it through town. My grandson is 12 and has been a train buff for 10 years. He can tell you the type of engine coming down the track just from the sound - way before he sees it. I love to ride with him on the steam trains because he talks non-stop about their history. :-) This is a stellar shot.

impressive engine and capture.a local railroad museum will be moving to a neighboring city to a 12 acre place.I hope I will be able to seen some of it's many locomotives being moved by rail.they have one of the largest locomotives ever made and there is no way they could move it on the streets http://www.dallasrailwaymuseum.com/bigboy.html http://www.dallasrailwaymuseum.com/collection.html

good shot very nice composition, i'd have been tempted to clone out the sign toward the bottom of the shot as i don't think it really adds anything to the scene.. well timed shot with a good range of colour

greetings Siegfried, Even to this day I have a weakness for steam engine trains. There is something magical about them and I hope they will be around for years to come. Thank you for sharing. egmont

My live steam connection most recently was in Paducah, Kentucky. I was with folks who were more interested in the walking tour and the unwed mothers home as well as the former market but weeventually got to the products of the local locomotive works and I got to study a double acting cylinder set. A later look at including mocked up linkage at greenfiled village still left me not quite able to comprehend how the small cylinders deliver power. Having an automatic lubricator mounted in the same space almost took me on a wild goose chase. With 2-10-0 the heavy firebox is a bit crowded I learned that from books about the Pennsylvanias.

That is one beautiful old engine there Sig, I know Mick will be thrilled to bits with this one, I am myself. Superb restoration work, makes the engine look nearly new. I thought our ten mile local track was small(they are trying to get it extended another couple of miles) but compared to yours it's a marathon. I had better be happy with what we have. Lol. The small sign, I believe is a line marker and an integral part of any railway, so deserves to be in the shot as much as the water tower. Superb pov and capture. Bravo!!!!!

I love trains and especially their whistle in the night. Beautiful capture, Sig and I agree with Tim, the water tower in this shot is the perfect touch.
