During our Senegal travel (see my five previous images), we stopped often for the midday lunch, in hash-houses for the local people. We received usually a single dish: rice with a sauce and either fish or chicken. In these restaurants and in the families, people are generally eating while seating on the ground, barefoot on a matting, with their hands. But to White guests or travellers, one offers often a spoon. At the end of the lunch, Aissatou (who we photographed with her agreement) prepared us the tea. After that, we simply stretched on the ground, our luggage under the head, and we enjoyed a restoring siesta.

Lors de notre séjour au Sénégal (voir mes cinq vues précédentes), nous nous sommes souvent arrêtés pour le repas de midi, dans des "gargottes" fréquentées par la population locale. On nous servait généralement un plat unique: du riz en sauce avec du poisson ou du poulet. Dans ces restaurants, ou dans les familles, on mange habituellement assis par terre, déchaussé, sur une natte, avec ses mains. À l’invité (Blanc) ou au voyageur, on offre souvent une grande cuiller. À la fin du repas, Aïssatou (que j’ai photographiée avec son accord) nous a préparé le thé. Ensuite, nous nous sommes tout simplement allongés sur le sol, notre sac à dos sur la tête, et nous avons savouré une sieste réparatrice.
