Description
She was the reason I missed what was later to be known as a 'Freedom Flight to the World', a commercial charter flight for returning service men from SEA (Southeast Asia) via Hickam AFB, Hawaii to the CONUS (Continental United States).
I was put on stand-by and left Clark AB, P.I. at around 20:00 Christmas Eve on a C-141A that originated at Tan Son Nhut AB, Viet Nam to McChord AFB, WA instead. We topped off with fuel and flew non-stop via Japan, Kamchatka Peninsula, Aleutian Islands down the coast to Washington. We arrived about 1/2 earlier on Christmas Eve than we left the P.I.
Christmas Day I flew on another C-141A from McChord to Travis AFB, CA where I got discharged from the active Air Force the following day.
This picture was taken on 24 December 1967 and later scanned.
